The Painkiller® is a Pusser's-associated rum cocktail with pineapple, orange, sweetened cream of coconut and nutmeg. The main recipe below uses the named rum; a different-rum adaptation should not be presented as the official branded serve.
Ingredients
- — 60ml Pusser's rum (40% ABV assumed; check your bottle)
- — 120ml pineapple juice
- — 30ml orange juice
- — 30ml sweetened cream of coconut
- — Ice cubes
- — A small pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
- — A washed orange wedge, optional garnish
Method
- Stir the cream of coconut until smooth. Measure the rum, pineapple juice, orange juice and cream of coconut into a shaker.
- Add ice, seal and shake hard for 10–15 seconds until chilled and combined.
- Strain into a large glass filled with fresh ice.
- Grate a little nutmeg on top and add the optional orange wedge. Serve promptly before the ingredients separate.
The classic vs the spiced version
The cited Pusser's recipe is the basis for the main drink. A 60ml Dilay substitution would be a spiced pineapple-and-coconut adaptation, not the official Painkiller®; label it accordingly. We make Dilay and are not affiliated with Pusser's.
Tips for getting it right
- — Use sweetened cream of coconut, not thin coconut milk. Unsweetened coconut cream is also a different product.
- — Check the precise Pusser's bottle strength; the unit calculation here assumes 40%, not every version of the brand.
- — A small nutmeg dusting is a garnish. Do not increase it to spoonfuls or recommend large quantities.
- — Keep the listed single rum measure even when lengthening the drink. There is no extra float in this recipe.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use coconut milk?
The cited recipe uses sweetened cream of coconut. Coconut milk makes a thinner, less sweet drink and requires separate balancing.
Can I call a Dilay version the official Painkiller?
No. The referenced branded recipe uses Pusser's. Label a different-rum drink as a separate pineapple-and-coconut adaptation.
How many units are in the measured drink?
At the assumed 40% strength, 60ml rum supplies 2.4 UK units. Check the actual bottle label before using that figure.
For a different spiced pineapple-and-coconut adaptation, use a measured Dilay substitution and name it separately from the official Pusser's serve.
