# Pineapple Rum Cocktails

Pineapple is the most common fruit in rum cocktails, but it does different work in each: blended body in a piña colada, sweet bulk in a Painkiller® or a jug of punch, a counterpoint to bitterness in a Jungle Bird, or one measured juice among four in a Rum Swizzle.

Each drink below is a full measured recipe on its own page, with named measures, a complete method and an alcohol-unit statement. This page links to those recipes rather than repeating or rewriting their instructions.

## Piña Colada

Pineapple and coconut, blended

The IBA blend of 50ml white rum, 50ml pineapple juice and 30ml coconut cream with a measured starting weight of crushed ice. Pineapple supplies fruit and acidity while coconut supplies body.

## Painkiller®

Pineapple leads the fruit

120ml pineapple juice leads this Pusser's-based serve, with orange juice and sweetened cream of coconut behind it and nutmeg on top. The pineapple is doing the volume work, so juice quality matters.

## Jungle Bird

Pineapple against bitterness

45ml pineapple juice and 15ml lime balance a measured 22.5ml of Campari and blackstrap rum. The pineapple is part of the balance, not just sweetness — shaking it can foam, so the linked method strains promptly.

## Mary Pickford

A short, vintage-style serve

45ml pineapple juice with white rum, 7.5ml Luxardo Maraschino and 5ml grenadine. This is a short shaken classic rather than a long fruity drink, and the small liqueur measure is counted in its 2.04 units.

## Rum Swizzle

One juice among four

30ml pineapple juice supplies body alongside orange, grapefruit and lime in Bermuda's two-rum churned serve. Four juices sound like a lot, but each is small and measured — the citrus keeps the pineapple from tasting flat.

## Rum Runner

Pineapple with banana and blackberry

60ml pineapple juice is the fruit base under two rums, banana and blackberry liqueurs and a full 30ml of lime. It is a strong tropical serve at 3.32 units with the liqueurs counted.

## Spiced Rum Punch

The shared jug

600ml pineapple juice in a measured jug for eight, with orange, lime and bitters. It is the one batch on this page: mix it ahead, keep it cold and follow the eight-serving division rather than refilling glasses by eye.

## The pineapple is measured juice, not the rum

None of these drinks rely on pineapple flavouring in the rum bottle. The pineapple is separately measured juice in every linked recipe, so changing the rum changes the base character while the fruit stays the same — and switching from carton juice to fresh fruit changes texture and sweetness in ways each recipe notes.

Because the pineapple is a measured liquid, scaling a recipe means scaling the juice with it, not adding more rum to taste. The linked pages keep rum measures fixed and adjust balance through citrus and syrup instead.

## Pineapple Rum Cocktails questions

### Does the rum itself contain pineapple?

No. In every drink on this page the pineapple is separately measured juice added to ordinary rum. A pineapple-flavoured rum product is a different bottle with its own strength and sweetness, and using one would require rebalancing the linked recipes rather than a like-for-like swap.

### Which of these pineapple drinks is least sweet?

The Jungle Bird is the bitter-led outlier: Campari keeps its pineapple from tasting sweet. The Mary Pickford is a short drink with only 5ml grenadine, while the Painkiller® and the punch carry the most fruit volume. Each linked recipe explains how to adjust balance in small measured steps.

### Can I use spiced rum in all of them?

Most of the linked recipes document a clearly labelled spiced adaptation that replaces one measured rum component. Check each linked page for its stated substitution, and keep the measure the same — the adaptation replaces a component, it does not add extra alcohol.

### How much alcohol is in a pineapple rum cocktail?

It depends on the recipe. At assumed 40% strength, the Piña Colada and Mary Pickford sit near 2 UK units per serving, the Painkiller® near 2.4, and the Rum Runner 3.32 with its liqueurs counted. Each linked page states its own figure at its stated strengths; ice and juice dilution do not remove alcohol.
